On September 10, 1972, the Peak Family was found shot in their home on Pheasant Drive, Hidden Lakes, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Bernice and William were declared dead at the scene. Barbara died two weeks later. Barbara did indicate that they were attacked by multiple people.
