On April 27, 1975, Merlin was found in a ditch a quarter of a mile south of Orchard on Orchard-Ewing road. Merlin reportedly left the Legion Club and was not seen alive again. Autopsy ruled the cause of death to be cerebral hemorrhage caused from a blow to the head with a blunt instrument and died around 3 a.m. Someone had confessed at least three times to an individual by 2018. He claimed to be responsible for Merlin’s death. However, his description of events doesn’t match the evidence.
