On June 2, 2008, Elijah was in the parking lot of a local business in the area of 62nd and Ames Avenue. The suspect drove into the area and got out of their vehicle. Elijah got out of his vehicle and began to run through the parking lot while being chased by the suspect. The suspect shot multiple times. At 6:26 p.m, Omaha Police and medics were dispatched to the area. Elijah was located down in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Elijah was declared deceased at the scene.
